Grand Union Walk

Peering over the Camden Lock canalside, 1-12 Grand Union Walk is a terrace of Grimshaw-designed High Tech style homes designed and constructed in the 1980s as part of a wider site development scheme. They are now Grade II listed for their architectural interest. Nevertheless, as with all buildings the requirements of modernity are constantly evolving, and we have now completed two restoration and refurbishment projects at this site to meet new standards in design and performance.

We were first commissioned in 2020 to carry out restoration and refurbishment work to number ten, and in 2022 we completed a refurbishment and repair project to number nine. The latter included conservation to the original aluminium windows and restoration of the original floor layout, which had become confused in an accumulation of poorly considered alterations. Underfloor heating, a new kitchen, rewiring, and a new roof terrace were all included within a tight budget.

The result is a home which as the client described: ‘is not just far better to live in, but even fun and enjoyable’, and perhaps remains faithful to the original ‘humour and panache’ which Historic England describes as integral to the architectural interest of these houses.
